| PROJECT - "UNDERSTAND US" (Kishan Kunj Slum, Laxmi Nagar) |
Slums are also an integral part of Delhi, which can't be left unattended.
It is highly surprising that according to survey conducted in 2011,
Over 1/3 of the Delhi's estimated population live in slums with no basic
Resources like clean water and proper food. Proper system of cleaning
Roads, disposal of garbage & waste water, proper toilets and other
Essential facilities that is required for maintaining hygienic condition
are still absent.
To understand the real plight of people living in Kishan Kunj Slum , Laxmi Nagar, the committed volunteers of USD Consortium went to this area on 12th January, 2017.

The purpose was not only to Understand their pathetic living conditions & provide whatever support we can, but also to make them understand the importance of Health &Hygiene, Education, Socio-Economic Empowerment through Skill Development & Training Prgms.

| The distribution of used/unused clothes, blankets, toys, shoes etc in Chill Winters, immediately brought a big smile on the faces of slum people and also assured them that now they can trust us and help us in understanding the grim reality of their life in highly unhygienic conditions.

The condition of roads in Kishan Kunj Slum are really pathetic. Mounds of garbage have piled up at their threshold which also poses the perennial risk of exposing the residents to infections and severe diseases.
Even infants, women are forced to go nearby plot to defecate due to lack of safe public toilets. (We found the public toilets locked or sans water supply).This is a serious problem and needs to be look upon seriously and immediately.
USD Consortium sincerely request & expect our Government to take immediate measures to improve the sanitation conditions of this slum so that people could get better place to live in and fulfill their dreams.

| PROJECT - "NIROGI - SWASTHYA" (Khichripur, East Delhi) |
The purpose of our project - "NIROGI SWASTHYA" is to create awareness amongst women on how to keep their families healthy & disease-free and to make them understand the need to keep the environment clean. USD Consortium team went to Khichripur slum area again this winter, on Janurary 17, 2016. To an extent, our team successfully convinced them on the need of practicing hygienic habits for their well-being, about the first-aids need to be provided in case of any minor accident/injury & generating awareness among the younger generation about the psychological and medical needs of the children & elderly in the society,Food and clothing were also later provided to senior citizens and poor families..

| USD Consortium visited NATIONAL BLIND YOUTH ASSOCIATION, PATPARGANJ on 20 Janurary,2016 to understand the blind's vision of blindness, to try to change public attitudes about blindness and try to assess our ability to provide blind youths proper opportunity in the field of education, employment and making them asset for the society.

The harsh Reality of life is not hidden from anyone . Society holds misconceptions about the visually impaired, yet the blind can communicate well and perform skills with independent mobility, becoming productive citizens.
USD Consortium team shared their stories of success, failures, happy and sad moments and appreciated their never dying spirit to work hard & prove their worth. The smile on their faces gave us real satisfaction & lots of motivation.
After discussing latest technological advancements in today's world, we later found that most of them were actually handling their social media accounts on their own & if proper training and opportunity is given, the average blind person can do and are actually doing the average job in the average place of business as well as their sighted neighbor.

| PROJECT - "UNDERSTAND US"(Roadside Jhuggi' East Delhi) |
USD Consortium did this project on 24th November, 2015 found approx. twenty little huts (opposite & in nearby roadside area)of Max Hospital, Patparganj, East Delhi, patched together with tarp and tent which are tidy and clean inside but very unhygienic outside. By dusk, flies buzz angrily outside the jhuggi's (all around )& it will be swarming with mosquitos. The problem of people stuck in limbo land like them is the problem of permanent addresses in India. Everything like Ration Card, Aadhar card etc needs a permanent address or electricity bill.

No one actually helps us. Can you?

"Where will we get a bill when we get no electricity? We pull rickshaws, shine shoes, do mazdoori etc. We don't want money from you. We just want proper sewers, a water tank and safer roads". Because of the traffic down the road at night, there are multiple chances of accidents of our children.
And we promised to help them on behalf of our literate society to understand their problems.
USD Consortium is always committed to know about the problems of the people staying in jhuggi's in India, specially health & hygiene related, their education and how to make them skilled in various trades with the help of Indian Government.

| PROJECT - "NIROGI - SWASTHYA" (MANDAWALI - NEAR RAILWAY LINE) |
Sanitation is still an area of big concern in India. Only Good knowledge, awareness, attitudes and hygienic practices among the public regarding dengue prevention & other such water-borne diseases are required for the success of disease control measures of Government. (In diseases like Dengue and others, prevalent in these areas.)
USD Consortium is determined to help our Govt. in educating & creating awareness in the population specially of the slum area, about the importance of better sanitation , personal hygiene & public cleanliness.
So, on September 4, 2015, USD CONSORTIUM tried to create awareness in the slum area of Mandawali (Near Railway line), East Delhi, on HEALTH & HYGIENE issue specially, related to diseases like Dengue, Typhoid etc.
We also distributed used & unused clothes, bed sheets, toys, etc to the needy people in this area.

| We ultimately found that lack of adequate clean water; proper toilets and poor awareness are the main causes of water-borne diseases in this slum area.

USD Consortium is committed to educate our society about healthy living and promote disease prevention activities. Everyone needs to understand that Prevention is easier & better than seeking medical treatment once infected.
USD Consortium provided valuable information about Preventing - Air &Waterborne Diseases, various vaccination programs, Good personal hygiene habits, providing First-aids etc at a camp organized at Chander Vihar area, East Delhi on March 20, 2015.

| We also provided knowledge of - Safety measures in the home, at work and during travel to avoid accidents. Also information on how to reduce the risk of injury from road trauma, drowning, chemical or food poisoning, ear or eye damage, infection and environmental hazards was provided to them.

| PROJECT - "SAHYOG" (KHICHRIPUR) |

For those living on the streets and in slums, winter is very hard to bear .To help them a little bit, USD CONSORTIUM distributed blankets, used clothes, sweaters, etc to the needy people in a slum area of Khichripur, New Delhi on December 23, 2014.These clothes were collected by our project team under our Project SAHYOG where every class of society has donated their used items, but still needed and usable by poor people.
We try to make them understand the significance of personal hygiene and sanitation.
We promised that we will try our level best to provide them basic education and make them more skilled so that they can get better opportunities for better jobs.
It really feels great to have helped them. |

USD Consortium conducted various awareness camps on health & hygiene besides distributing clothes in slum area of Kalyanpuri (East Delhi) and imparted awareness on these issues so that they can understand the benefits of living a life in hygienic conditions. |
